We purchase copper pieces that have been stamped out of a sheet. Each piece is prepared through sanding and cleaning in order to guarantee that the glass will adhere. Once they are ready, glass that has been ground into a fine powder is sifted onto the copper shape. It is then fired in a kiln one or more times depending on how many color layers and whether it includes small glass chunks, threads and chips to create designs.

The pieces are actually quite durable. The larger the piece, the greater the expanse of glass and the more likely it is to break if it is dropped on a surface such as a tile floor. Smaller pieces are the most durable. In most situations that someone is wearing jewelry our items are fairly safe. If you know your bracelets and anklets get bumped quite a bit, we encourage you to find a pair of earrings or a necklace that you like instead.

Copper forms a natural patina over time as the moisture in the air reacts with the metal. The good news is that if you don't enjoy the patina that forms, you can clean your piece quite easily. Simply pour a bit of vinegar into a glass and carefully dip your copper enameled piece into it. The back of the item should be clean and shiny. If your jewelry is mounted on a sterling silver chain, please be sure to keep the chain out of the vinegar as the silver does not react well to the liquid. You can always use a cotton swab to gently apply vinegar instead if it is easier.

We could. We don't for several reasons. Many people specifically collect and enjoy copper jewelry. If the back was enameled, the beautiful copper would never show. Also, counter-enameling is a complex process and we find that the pieces have cleaner and more sophisticated looking edges with only one side enameled. Cleaning the copper is simple and easy. Pour a small amount of vinegar in a glass and gently dip the copper piece in it. If you are cleaning a piece that is mounted on a sterling silver or silver plated chain you may use a cotton swab to apply the vinegar to ensure the liquid won't harm the chain. You may run the item under water to remove any vinegar or prevent vinegar from getting on your clothing if you would like.
